Tina's Post #1

For my self change goal, there are many things I wanted to change about myself. I have many habits that I need to improve myself such as: study habits, sleep patterns, and being active. It took me awhile to narrow down to my decision on what I wanted to achieve as a goal. My friend’s wedding is coming up in October, so with this self change goal assignment, it would motivate me to challenge the goal on being active.

I haven't been physically active as I should be to maintain my health. The last time I ran was probably a few years ago, but it feels as if there's no time to exercise. I realize that I have to make time for it, rather than making excuses just to avoid exercising.

I just started yesterday and I can say that I’m definitely not in shape from the soreness I’m feeling right now. My cousin is physically active himself and he is willing to help me maintain in shape again by asking me to join him when he works out. I will start out slowly and eventually improve upon exercising. I jogged on the treadmill for 15 minutes and will add more time to it on the next time I work out as a challenge. Also, I did some weight lifting, sit ups, and jump roping.

After my first session, I felt really bad about myself because I didn’t exercise for awhile. Many people out in the public might see me as a “normal” body type, but I have been criticized for my body weight that has made me very insecure of myself.

My goal is to exercise 3 days a week, but I don’t plan to have an end date to my goal since I’m supposed to be exercising as part of my routine. It’s a challenge that I hope to achieve to a healthier lifestyle.

  1. Tina this sounds like a great goal to have! I know exactly what you mean when you say you haven't been as physically active as you should be. I feel the same way every day. With all the school work going on and work, I believe your goal of 3 days is great to start with..Who knows it may increase over time. There is so much to do in one day it’s hard to fit a little exercise here and there, but with your motivation I believe you can accomplish your goal :)
I don't know who would criticize your body weight; you are not overweight by any chance to me. I believe you should make changes because you want to not because what other people say about you! If this is your personal goal I support you 100% don't listen to what others have to criticize you about.
Hopefully we can all stick with the self-change project since its should benefit us in the future :) we will all stick together and get through the obstacles good luck with the start of your project!

  2. Tina, this is a great goal that you've chosen. Not only will this help you feel better but its great for your health as well. I feel as though I was in the same place you were 6 months ago. I was invited to a wedding and wanted to lose 10 pounds. I had never watched what I ate or exercised however as I'm getting older I feel as though my metabolism has slowed down and I need to exercise to keep off the weight. Just like you, I set a goal for myself and also rewarded myself as I got closer to my goal weight. I accomplished my goal and now I'm addicted to working out. It will be extremely hard and will require a great deal of motivation however once you get there you will feel so much better about yourself.

  4. Tina, we have a similar goals to complete! My goal relates to fitness as well. I know how hard it is to work out, especially on the days when you do not feel like it. I think it is smart that you are starting out with just three days. I have failed several times in the past when I try to do too much when starting out. You are lucky to have your cousin help you. I have learned that when you have an accountability partner, it helps you stay on track. Fitness is not only important for your health, but it also makes you feel better about yourself. I'm sorry that you have been criticized for your weight. Hopefully by doing this project you will be able to regain your confidence. I support your goal and wish you the best!
